Crested Butte, Colorado

Sunday, March 1, 2015

Today was our last day at Crested Butte, with 14" reported overnight. I kind of wish it hadn't dumped, as everyone and their brother was in the lift line - Kurt reported that "The Silver Queen lift line goes all the way to Gunnison." We decided to go to the Red Lady lift instead - the line was still huge, but at least shorter than the other. In fact, most of the lifts had ridiculous lines, with the exception of the super slow double Teocalli, which serves like two blues. Ultimately we ended up skiing the trees on the sides of mellow runs, rather than getting up high - the North Face T Bar never opened, and we never got over to the High Lift. I had mixed feelings about this - I did want to experience the upper stuff, but then again I'm not sure I was up to slamming into hidden rocks repeatedly on what is truly some gnarly terrain. Pretty sure I annoyed at least one of my friends by constantly waffling between "I'd like to join you on the upper stuff" and "Nah, I'll just play in the trees down here." We left at noon and had a surprisingly pleasant drive home.
